Yesterday Apple approved the 1.1 orion update to Pieces in record time. 1.1 was mean to be a major update but a recent bug find will push those new features to 1.2. This update includes bug fixes and a new twitter engine.
AMTwitterEngine
The first version of Pieces used the stunning twitter engine developed by Matt Gemmell for Twitterfic, an engine that was able to perform every aspect of twitter for an app, but as Pieces only needs to post status updates, this was a significant amount of code not being used. Hours after Pieces was submitted to Apple I began work on developing a more lightweight and simpler twitter engine to be included in Pieces and QuickPost. My engine is an eighth of the size of Matt Gemmell’s engine, bringing instant performance increases when using it in Pieces and reducing the overall app download size. Over the next couple of updates I will further refine the engine as well as the whole ’social’ aspect of the app so stay tuned.
Refinements & Bug Fixes
The reason for pushing this update earlier than expected was the discovery of a bug that caused the ‘month view’ to only show entries from 2009 and not 2010 as it should. This has been fixed and now works perfectly, sorry for any inconvenience caused. Some small database refinements have also been implemented so you should see some performance increases when browsing and viewing your entries.
Keep a look out for Pieces 1.2 over the coming weeks as it will bring further exciting interface and software refinements that will make using the app, so much more enjoyable. Thanks to everyone who bought the app and if you haven’t yet, get it now before the price rise when 1.2 is released! Check it out on the Pieces website.
